Crime prevention advice issued in relation to vehicle-related thefts

We just wanted to take a moment to again share some important vehicle-related crime prevention advice to help protect your property from thieves.

Please can you take a moment to read and share the following important advice;

- Please remain vigilant, ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked and that you do not leave valuables inside your vehicles or on display. 
- Leaving a vehicle unlocked can dramatically increase the risk of it being broken into, and while it may reduce the potential damage, it can also attract thieves to other vehicles nearby. 
- Even if a vehicle is unattended for a short period of time, locking it and using other devices like alarms and steering locks will deter thieves.
- Your mobile phone, coins for the car park, sunglasses, packs of medication or other items that can earn quick cash are irresistible to opportunist thieves. 
- Remember, the cost of replacing a window is often much more than that of what was stolen.
- Make sure to physically check that doors and windows are locked, especially if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, then look inside again to make sure you’ve not left anything on display, including ensuring that your glove box is closed.

Thefts from motor vehicles, especially those that are insecure, are often opportunistic. Offenders, hoping that the vehicle is unlocked, will try door handles. Together, we can keep them out!
