We are implementing further stop and search powers in Southampton, following a serious assault that occurred yesterday (Friday 16 May). Police received a call from the ambulance service at 5.10pm yesterday after a man in his 20s sustained stab wounds during an assault in Argyle Road. The man was taken to hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. Officers are continuing to carry out extensive enquiries at the scene and in the surrounding area. A 23-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm, has since been released on conditional police bail, pending further enquiries. Additional stop and search powers, which are utilised under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, will now cover the locations captured in the pictured map, and will remain in place until 5.45pm tomorrow (Sunday 18 May). These powers give officers the ability to stop and search anyone in a designated location, without the restrictions of normal stop and search. If you have any information about this incident, please speak to officers in the area or contact police on 101, quoting incident number 44250213949. "Teams will be undertaking proactive patrols throughout the rest of the evening, tomorrow and coming days. We urge anyone with concerns to please speak to our officers who will be more than happy to assist you.”
